MORK GRYNING Hinsides Vrede

After 15 years of complete silence one of my favorite acts from Sweden 90s black metal scene has return to make such an impact. Actually I forget to review this one since the record is from 2020 but still this a nice chance to have a word or two about this promising and nice offering. The album is very well-written in the true veins of Swedish best efforts from glorious 90s so if you adore good traditionally composed black metal you’r eon the right place.

Hinsides Vrede is the latest offering coming from Mork Gryning and it really remains me on their debut record. Some more then 20 years ago I could recall that I was doing the interview with MG when they have released their 3rd opus and now they have return and made their comeback with a splendid full-length, 6th in their discography if I count well. Moreover, during last 15 years when they’re inactive they have become a sort of a cult when it comes to Scandinavian BM scene.

Their latest full-length really offers the atmosphere, style and music from their debut album. The quality is more then present: the heavy moments and grim-like atmosphere are welcome. We’re facing here some very melodic BM music but also with lots of aggression. The music and the style of MG are mainly based on harmonic BM riffing very classic-like for Sweden scene, but here and there they do have some keyboards in the background. The songs are very direct, with strong riffing (somehow these tunes are so authentic for MG) and vocals while the drumming and tempo are fast as hell. Here and there the band has added some clean vocals which perfectly suit the the whole epic yet dark atmosphere. What is also very interesting is that the solos could recall some heavy metal from 80s, they’re written in quite heavy metal style.

It will be very hard to separate one song from another but we need to observe and take this album as a whole. If you’re into Swedish scene from 90s you will adore this one. I think that Seth and Mork Gryning so far have the strongest returns/comebacks, both bands on cult label Season of Mist.

The band has returned after 15 years of since with such a strong release and I am more then glad concerning this one. It was one of the BM highlights when it comes to 2020. I am still waiting to see them somewhere performing live – it will be amazing! You have also the latest interview with them on Metal Sound pages…
